New look for Project COBB

by Joe Gray

Project COBB logoAs part of my plan to stand down from the role of Southern Scorers Commissioner and webmaster for the Great Britain Baseball Scorers Association (GBBSA) by the end of the current season, I’ve needed to tease Project COBB and the GBBSA apart. So I’ve given the British baseball history initiative a new typeface, a new colour scheme, and a new website (and I’ve capitalized the “COBB” bit of the name). As part of this, I’ve also freshened up other related webpages, most notably that of the British Baseball Hall of Fame.

To go to the home page for the new website, click here.

The result is something that I hope is a lot less confusing to people not closely associated with Project COBB, as it means that unlike before — when a user had to jump between the GBBSA and the Project COBB areas of the website to be able to access all of the different archives — everything is now “under one roof”. The archives I originally created on the GBBSA website (before Project COBB even existed) — specifically, the national team archive and the one for top-tier stats and feats — have been transitioned across to the Project COBB site.

It is worth me stressing that Project COBB will continue to offer support to trainee scorers if this is desired, as the mission for this online collaboration remains not only to restore the game’s past in this country but also to ensure the preservation of its future.

The new site looks great, Joe. I particularly like the double-level navigation bar for the Archives section, which makes it very quick and easy to get to where you want to go. The new colour scheme sets it all off. Great job!

Jo,

I am updated the links on our club website.

The GBBSA url goes straight to Project Cobb now. Is their no longer a GBBSA site?

Thanks for updating the links.

All of the historical information on the GBBSA site has been transfered across to Project COBB. Most of the other GBBSA information was related to training, which Project COBB can help with on request.

So there should be some continuity.

Cheers,

Joe

Also.. quick update on the GBBSA position:

I’m going to continue my ties with the GBBSA in the “illustrious” position of International Scorers Commissioner. This is a fairly hands-off role, as we don’t regularly host internationals, but it again helps with continuity.

The NBL Scorers Commissioner role has been filled by a truly excellent candidate, but there is still a vacancy for a Southern Scorers Commissioner, which would cover training and improving scoring provision and stats collation in the South and Midlands below the top tier. Anyone interested should let me know.

The identity of the new NBL Commissioner (officially taking on the role from the end of the season) will be announced on the BBF site shortly.

I cant find the GBBSA powerpoint presentations (the ones you did at the scorers clinic) and score sheet docs on the new site.

Am I not looking in the right place?

Hi Matt,

As mentioned above, this will now be available “on request”, as I’m no longer maintaining a GBBSA site. I haven’t deleted them, though.

Cheers,

Joe

dear joe, my husband used to play for the Richmond Red Socks in The Ham, Richmond in the 50’s and we understand that the team still plays on the common. Could you please find out any information re; when they play and who is the manager of the team, as my husband would like to pay a visit when the season starts?

We live in Kent so we could come up and visit when the games are being played.

He also has a very old photo of the team, when they won the pennant.

Thanking you for your help. Norman {Nobby the catcher)

Hi Norman,

Yes, there is still baseball played there, although it’s a new Richmond club. Here are links to the teams, including some contact details:

I tried emailing you too, about the photo (which it’d be great to get a copy of), but I got a bounce-back.

Many thanks,

Joe
