BaseballGB Fantasy League 2011: Week Eleven

by Mark George

BgbFantasyHeadlineWelcome to our weekly round-up of the BaseballGB Fantasy League competition. This is a mixed Head-2-Head league involving BGB writers and readers.

There are fourteen teams who pair up in different combinations each week, making for seven match-ups in any given week. The teams battle over twelve statistical categories, gaining one point for each category they win.

All the points are carried over into the season league table at the end of the weekly match-ups. The top six teams with the most points at the end of the fantasy season will go on to the playoffs during the last three weeks of September.

The race at the top of the BaseballGB standings is heating up. Which teams are charging up the league?

We start with a big win for the Stuff, who climbed up to second after defeating the Bet 10-1. The Stuff put up awesome homer numbers thanks to Morse and Lind as seven different hitters went yard. It was hardly a vintage week for ERAs, but the Stuff still took five pitching categories thanks to Hamels and Crow. Youk was the pick of Margaret’s hitters, while Halladay and Lincecum both went winless.

The Yankees were also big winners, sweeping the offensive categories in a 10-2 victory over the Vendors. Justin Upton, Cano and Granderson all had productive weeks, while Cain, Danks, Humber and Tomlin all picked up wins. Verlander was outstanding for the Vendors, while the bullpen of Wilson, Walden, Clippard and Sipp took care of saves and holds.

Dave’s team picked up a 7-4 win over Bonestalkers thanks to the pitching staff. Burnett, Baker, Lester and Norris all had strong weeks to help take four categories, while Pujols and Gardner provided power and runs but Albert’s injury leaves a hole in the lineup. Bonestalkers ran wild, stealing 11 bases thanks to Reyes and BJ Upton while Hanrahan had three saves.

My pitching staff made the difference in the 7-5 win against Redbacks, sweeping the six categories. Daniel Hudson and Chacin led the rotation, while Bailey had three saves and Balfour two holds. It was a pretty mediocre week for my hitters, but Montero and Walker gave me the edge in RBIs. Ichiro, Cuddyer, Rolen and Hill helped Redbacks take the other five offensive categories.

Jinxed myself with my comment last week…my unbeaten record came to an end. Thought I was cruising to a comfortable victory then a spectacular last day collapse and an unbelievable last day from SWAT saw them turn it around! My leads getting Pegged back!
