Introducing ‘You Are the Scorer’

The flow of games may come to a halt, but there really isn’t an off-season in baseball.  MLB teams will simply divert all their energy to building for next year: pursuing free agents and discussing possible trades.  The players will be keeping in shape, making sure they are in prime condition by the time Spring Training and the World Baseball Classic rolls around.  And us here at BaseballGB will also be busy working on a number of projects and introducing several new features that have been in the planning stages for a few months.

The first of these features will debut at noon tomorrow.  Taking inspiration from the classic football strip “You Are the Ref”, we will be placing you in the ‘scorer’ hot seat every Friday lunchtime with our new series: “You Are the Scorer”.

Each week, a scoring scenario of varying degrees of difficulty will be put before you with a number of possible answers to consider.  Once you’ve made your decision, a click on the ‘Continued’ link will reveal the official ruling and an explanation.  We hope it will be a fun way to test your scoring knowledge while helping to explain the official rules relating to scoring.

On a technical note, those of you who follow the blog via the RSS feed may want to log on directly to the home page to enjoy the full experience, as otherwise the full post (including the answer) will be displayed from the outset.

‘You Are the Scorer’ is one of a number of scoring-related features that we will be bringing to you over the off-season.  The GBBSA blog category has already been introduced (accompanying the excellent GBBSA website), a Baseball Basics for Brits on ‘Keeping Score’ is in the works, as are some downloadable scorecards and a series of posts looking at some completed scoresheets from MLB and British ballgames.

We hope you enjoy the new feature.  Feel free to use the Comments function to ask any questions.
