We begin with the early pace-setters, as the Knights got off to a fast start with a 9-1 win against the Sox. It was a dominant display for the offense, winning five out of six categories. The red-hot Goldschmidt was the pick of the hitters, joining Gomes, Myers and Bautista in driving in four runs, while Moss knocked in five and Pedroia hit .357.

On the mound, Sonny Gray struck out 10, Dan Haren helped the staff post a sub 1.00 WHIP and Sergio Santos is already looking a wise draft choice, collecting two saves. Longoria, Morneau and Altuve (three steals) had good weeks for the Sox, who pitched pretty well. Greinke won both of his starts, joining Bumgarner in striking out 13, while Cueto punched out 17 and Street had a pair of saves.

The Butchers are also off to a good start, defeating Batteries Essential 8-3. Mark Trumbo may have struggled in the field, but he is looking good at the plate, belting five homers and driving in 13. Aramis Ramirez and Salvador Perez are also off to particularly hot starts. James Paxton looked very impressive in his first outing of the year, while the bullpen of Kimbrel, Holland, Melancon and Clippard took care of saves and holds.

If there were bonus points for home run distances, Batteries Essential would be happy after Stanton’s monster blast against the Padres last weekend, but they’ll have to settle for two homers and 12 RBIs and a pair of steals. The pitching staff did very well, with another Marlin, Jose Fernandez, picking up two wins and joining Wacha in posting impressive ERA and WHIP numbers.

My Isotopes started the season with a win, taking five offensive categories on the way to a 7-3 score against Norwich. Belt clubbed four homers, while Utley, Hanley Ramirez and Cruz each had a pair. Romo had two saves and De La Rosa struck out 10 but did damage to my ERA and WHIP in the process. Skaggs, Porcello and Watson each recorded wins for Norwich while also helping to claim ERA and WHIP. Freeman, Miller (making me eat my words) and Napoli each homered twice.

The Chasers just got the better of the Angels in a very tight matchup. The teams split the offensive categories, with the Angels nicking OPS on percentage points, but the Chasers won the matchup on the mound. Ryu and Lester racked up 14 strikeouts each, Hunter had two saves and Benoit collected the only hold. CarGo was the pick of the Angel batters, while Cliff Lee won twice and Wainwright and Kazmir helped take ERA.

It was hardly a vintage week for the batters in this matchup, but Iron Men still took five categories on the way to a 7-5 win against Beck ‘Nams. Josh Hamilton (two homers, five RBIs and a steal) and Ian Kinsler were the star hitters while Jeff Samardzija helped take ERA and Grilli and Rodney collected saves. Beck ‘Nams had the edge in wins, strikeouts and WHIP thanks to Sabathia, Liriano and Kuroda while Dozier swiped two bases and Kemp clubbed two homers.

The RBIs and Bananas couldn’t be separated, finishing in a 5-5 tie. The RBIs had the better of the offense, with Posey, La Roche and Gardner the star performers. Carlos Martinerz picked up a pair of holds. The Bananas had speed from Ellsbury and hit an overall .299 thanks to Werth, Lucroy and Zimmerman. Quintana and Lohse each struck out eight.

Finally, the Riverkings and Bits & Bytes also finished level 5-5. The Riverkings had the edge on the mound, with Cody Allen joining Chris Sale in recording two wins. Robertson had two saves but now faces a few weeks out with an injury. Carlos Santana, Brown and Nick Castellanos helped take average. Bits & Bytes had power (Molina and Cuddyer) and speed (Kendrick and Segura) and took ERA thanks to the impressive trio of King Felix, Pineda and Cashner.

Thanks for the round-up, Mark. Really looking forward to this season’s competition.

My Mark Teixeira gamble soon went wrong, although I’ve taken another punt by picking up Melky Cabrera. Clearly he’s not going to keep up his current home run pace, but it looks like he’s fully healthy after his back tumour last year and I’m hoping he can put together a solid season if he can stay on the field.

Primus sucks!

So does my team. But for real.
