Fantasy Baseball UK open again for 2015

by Matt Smith

We’re almost into single figures when counting down the days to MLB’s Opening Night and the St. Louis Cardinals and Chicago Cubs getting the 2015 season underway on Sunday 5 April.

As the season approaches, many of us are getting involved with fantasy baseball drafts and preparing our own ‘teams’ for competition.

The traditional rotisserie and Head-to-Head leagues that you can find on places like Yahoo and ESPN are the standard port of call, but for 12 years now British baseball fans have also had the enticing option of competing in the Fantasy Baseball UK league.

When it first started, it really came to prominence as the port of call for Baseball on 5 viewers and presenters. Sadly that great late-night institution came to an end several years ago, but the Fantasy Baseball UK competition remains.

I somehow managed to finish ninth out of 3173 participants in my first year (2005, I believe) and my fantasy fortunes have never reached those heights again. Maybe I wouldn’t have put myself through years of fantasy heartbreak if I hadn’t fluked my way to such a promising result in that first FBUK foray, but I certainly don’t regret it.

If you’re looking for yet another fantasy league to add to your enjoyment of the 2015 season, FBUK is well worth a try.
