BaseballGB: ‘About’ page updated

by Matt Smith

The start of the new MLB season has prompted my annual update to the ‘About’ page here at BGB (annual on the basis that it gets to this time of year and I think: ‘hang on, I haven’t updated that in a while’).

Whether you are a regular who wants to catch up on where we’ve got to, or if you have recently stumbled across us due to the Baseball on Five news, I hope that the page gets across what we are trying to do here.

The games may come to an end, but a baseball website never has an off-season.  With that in mind, we worked on a series of projects to fill the winter months.  They included:

  • using the slowdown in MLB news as an opportunity to focus a bit more on the Great Britain national team ahead of the Baseball World Cup,
  • creating a platform better suited to longer articles that would complement the rest of our content, while standing alone as separate pieces of work,
  • putting together a month-long series of posts, articles and resources relating to scorekeeping.

The period also offered us the chance to evaluate what worked well over the previous twelve months, what could be improved and what new additions would be a) useful to our visitors and b) enjoyable for us to work on.

We’ve put together various ideas that we will be taking forward this season which, accompanied by the benefits of Mark and Russ joining the writing team, will hopefully make the 2009 season at BGB even better than 2008.

With another exciting 2009 MLB season in prospect, the British league scheduled to begin in a couple of weeks, and Team GB’s involvement in the Baseball World Cup during September, there should be plenty to write about.

Thanks for your continued support.

This is slightly unrelated but I’ve just noticed you’ve added my red sox blog to your links…thanks!

No problem! It’s related in the sense that one of the key themes behind this site is to bring British baseball fans together. We’re always happy to link to sites/blogs written by other Brits.
