Spring Training games

by Matt Smith

In response to a comment on the previous post, I’ve done a bit of digging to find out which Spring Training games will be televised (and therefore shown on MLB.TV).  Only a few of the relevant local networks have published this info so far:

Cubs and White Sox

Mets

Red Sox

Tigers

The schedules on the official team websites state which games are being shown on ESPN and a full list can be found in the comments section of the previous post.  If you find any more broadcast schedules for spring training, feel free to post the links in the comments section below.

If a teams spring training games are shown on the teams local network will they be on MLB.tv?

For instance i’m a Yankees fan (I can hear the booing) and the first four spring training games at ‘home’ in Tampa are set to be on the YES Network (they don’t have a TV Guide beyond the 9th March). Usually when I watched MLB.tv last year the Yankees home games were on YES.

I was going to buy MLB.tv anyway, so I may as well take a punt and buy it for spring training, it doesn’t appear to be any more expensive.

All fans are welcome here, even those of the Evil Empire!

Yes, anything that is broadcast by the local networks (e.g. YES) should be on MLB.TV. So you will be able to catch those Yankees games if you subscribe. The ones that aren’t broadcast on television will be covered by their radio broadcasters (there may be the odd one or two that aren’t) so you can listen to those as well if you wish, as the Gameday Audio package is included in the MLB.TV subscription.

The year-long MLB.TV subscription does include spring training games at the standard price (my subscription will automatically renew on or around 1 March) so I would definitely suggest signing up and getting even more games for your money. If you are paying by month though it’s probably better to save the £8-£10 that March will cost you.

This link shows that only 3 March games will be on MLB.TV. Obviously that tag seems to only apply to Spring games.

Thanks for that link Scott. MLB.com have started adding the MLB.TV links to some of the other schedules as well. I seem to remember the ESPN games were broadcast on MLB.TV last year, so there might be a few more shown than is currently indicated..
