Great Britain’s Second Round Schedule

by Matt Smith

As we know Great Britain have qualified as the ‘4th 3rd place’ team, I’ve gone through the second round format and worked out our probable schedule.  This isn’t 100 per cent official, but it should be correct. All times are listed in BST (just add one hour for local time).

Sunday 13 – 19.00, Haarlem: CUBA
Monday 14 – 12.00, Amsterdam: SOUTH KOREA*
Tuesday 15 – Off day
Wednesday 16 – 18.00 Rotterdam: NICARAGUA
Thursday 17 – 12.00, Haarlem: PUERTO RICO*
Friday 18 – 18.00, Rotterdam: NETHERLANDS*
Saturday 19 – 12.00, Rotterdam: SPAIN
Sunday 20 – 12.00, Amsterdam: VENEZUELA

* = Listed as being broadcast on Eurosport2.  Should be noted that the TV schedule currently lists two games as being shown on Eurosport2 on Friday at 18.00 BST, so our game against the Netherlands might not be on after all.

Very annoying that the two games that definitely look like being on Eurosport are at middday during the week. I’ve just spent some time trying to work out if there’s any way I can get out there at such short notice for a game or two, but it doesn’t look like a possibility.

I am going to be in Holland and Italy next week to catch a few games. Hotel prices are real expensive in Holland and car hire charges are stupid. Italy is so much cheaper. Italy also looks like it will have closer games.

I really hope Cuba do not give GB a cricket score!!

Thanks Tim. Popping over to see my Cuban friends.

If anyone is heading and just doing Haarlem you can get a bus from the airport to Haarlem. Hotels start at 50 Euro a nite and the hotel the teams are using is 100 euro a nite. The stadium in Haarlem is 10 minute bus ride and from the team hotel take 2 buses and takes 30 mins. You can also get out to the Amsterdam stadium.

Rotterdam I would suggest staying in the team hotel as it is next to the stadium. From Rotterdam airport you can take a bus to the hotel (Zoo Stop) and also from the city centre you can take a 10 minute bus trip.

If you are going to hire a car then I suggest Hertz. Airport prices are real expensive £104.00 pounds for 2 days so I will take a 30 minute train ride to collect my car and I can return at airport for 50 pounds.

Italy is v diff as the games are all over Italy. Next weekend I am based in Bologna so get to watch 4 games in 3 days. Some drives are up2 160km.
