Home MLBBST Game Guides Nine early games this week

Nine early games this week

by Matt Smith

There are nine early games this week, including two classic cross-town rivalries on Friday.  All times are listed in BST.

Monday 23rd – No early games today and just five later on.  They include two excellent pitching match-ups: Dan Haren versus Josh Beckett (00.05) and Felix Hernandez versus Johan Santana (00.10).

Tuesday 24th – No early games again, but if you like knuckleballers then tune in at ten past midnight to see R.A. Dickey.  Unfortunately, he will be relying on the Mariners’ offense to get him some run support against the Mets.

Wednesday 25th – Our first early game of the week and opponents of interleague baseball will be glad to know it is the one National League game of the day.  The Brewers face the Braves with first pitch set for 18.00.  Knuckleball fans can follow up Dickey’s start yesterday by watching Tim Wakefield from 00.05.  He’s facing the D-Backs who have Randy Johnson on the mound, which should make for an interesting contrast.

Thursday 26th – As always, Thursday brings us a decent selection of early games to choose from.  We start off with the Rays against the Marlins from 17.10, with Matt Garza and Mark Hendrickson scheduled to take the mound.  At 18.05, the Cardinals face the Tigers, while the Cubs play host to the Orioles from 19.20.  At 20.10 John Danks and the White Sox take on Clayton Kershaw and the Dodgers.  Two games start at 20.35: the Twins versus the Padres and the Phillies versus the A’s (with Rich Harden scheduled to start for Oakland).

Friday 27th – We’ve got a bit of a treat today.  The latest round of the Subway Series begins with a double-header at Yankee Stadium, so we get a top-notch early game from 19.05.  Darrell Rasner will start for the Yanks, while either Pedro Martinez or Mike Pelfrey will go for the Mets.  If that isn’t enough, the Cubs and the White Sox hook up again in a day game at the Cell.  First pitch is scheduled for 21.05.

The Wednesday night game on Five begins at 01.40, while NASN’s MLB schedule for the week can be found here.

Well my trial has ended, but my login still works. And yes, I did cancel and got an email confirming I had. Had this last time. Worked for about an extra week. Was going to watch Sunday Night Baseball but couldn’t get the computer to output sensibly to the television. Stupid piece of crap.

BTW, found something interesting on MLB’s website. They do a Gameday Audio Rewind podcast. Seems pretty good. Not GREAT, but it’s about 15 minutes long. I never knew they did it, and it’s not listed on iTunes at all. I’ve subscribed. I figure anyone out there with an MP3 player can shove it on there and listen while they travel.

Just thought I’d give you a heads up on that.

Good to hear you’re getting a bit of free baseball.

Thanks for pointing out the Gameday Audio Podcast. I like the way they cut to the ‘radio’ commentary of the main moments from each game. I’ll be interested to see over the next few days what time the podcast is published by. It would be great to listen to at lunchtime, but I can’t access mp3’s at work so I’d need to be able to download it before I set off in the morning. With the time difference, I suspect they won’t always be available until midday over here, but we’ll see.

I think they are pretty late. I know I got THURSDAYS on about 3am Friday morning my time, so that’d be 10am UK time.

It was up in good time this morning, but there were only five games on Monday and none of them were late-night West coast affairs. So that’s probably going to be the exception. Worth keeping in my RSS feed list though.
