BGB Fantasy League 2012 Week Seventeen

There are just five weeks left of the regular season in the BaseballGB fantasy baseball league. Which teams are looking good for a playoff place and who needs to make a late charge?

The Angels were the week’s biggest winners, getting the better of YD33s 9-2. Kendry Morales had a big week but was outdone by AJ Pierzynski’s home run streak, as the White Sox catcher belted five homers. On the mound, Cliff Lee picked up an all too rare win, while Matt Thronton had two wins out of the pen as the pitchers won every category apart from saves. Headley and Cabrera helped YD33s take average and were two of four players to steal a base.

SWAT’s pitchers took five out of six categories on the way to a 9-3 win against Boyd’s Base On Balls. Burton and Reed had two saves, Kershaw was the pick of the starters and rookie Matt Harvey boosted the strikeout total. Beltran, Doumit and Encarnacion all had decent weeks with the bat. Base On Balls salvaged average and OPS thanks to Kinsler and Utley while O’Flaherty recorded the lone hold of the matchup.

The Riverkings keep on rolling with an 8-1 win against Bonestalkers. Jackson, Heyward and McKenry were the pick of the hitters while Worley didn’t allow an earned run and the Washington duo of Clippard and Burnett took care of saves and holds. New Dodger Blanton helped Bonestalkers take WHIP, while Altuve stole two bases and Maybin homered twice.

My Isotopes slugged their way to an 8-3 win against the RBIs, as AJ Ellis, Rizzo and Frazier all homered twice and McCutchen and Carlos Lee helped take average and OPS. Price racked up 16 strikeouts and teamed with Feldman in making the difference in ERA and OPS. The RBIs had the edge in steals, wins and saves thanks to the crew of Zimmerman, Cespedes, Phil Hughes, Weaver and Rodney and Parnell.

An offensive sweep helped the Stuff defeat Iron Men 8-4. The Angel duo of Pujols and Trout both had huge weeks, combining for 20 runs, 12 homers, 22 RBIs and three steals. On the mound, Romo, Myers and David Hernandez each picked up a hold, while Scherzer racked up 18 strikeouts. The rebounding Lincecum, Billingsley, Gallardo and Hamels all pitched well, allowing Iron Men to salvage four pitching categories. Arizona’s Chris Johnson hit three homers and team-mate Miguel Montero went deep twice.

Beck ‘Nams picked up an 8-4 win against daebhid2, as Pagain and Cruz had nice week with the bat and Buchholz and Halladay anchored the rotation. Axford, Papelbon and Putz combined for a win and four saves. Daebhid forfeited all six pitching actegories by failing to meet the 20 inning minimum limit.

The Chasers’ pitchers took five categories on the way to a 7-3 cwin against the Expats, posting ridiculously good ERA and WHIP numbers thanks to Fister, Shields, Romero and Dickey. Stubbs had a monster week with the bat, scoring 10 runs, homering twice and stealing three bases. David Murphy, Ibanez and Jeter helped the Expats take RBIs and average.

The Vendors got the better of the Pirates 7-5 in a close matchup. Rios, Kemp and Theriot helped take runs, homers and OPS, while King Felix, Liriano and Richard made the difference in wins, strikeouts, ERA and WHIP. The Pirates had nice offensive weeks from Pierre, Cano, Hamilton and Morneau, while Cishek, Balfour and League took care of saves and holds.

The Sox picked up a narrow win against the Yankees, eventually coming out on top 5-4. De Aza, Holliday and CarGo had nice weeks for the Sox offensively while AJ Burnett won twice and struck out 15 while posting great ERA and WHIP numbers. Fielder was the top Yankee hitter, while Broxton made the difference in holds.

The Bolts and Anglers finished all square. Chatham had the better of the offense, with big weeks from La Roche, Crawford, Posey and Infante while Nova, Cahill and Holland all posted double-digit strikeouts. The Bolts had speed from Reyes, while on the mound Matt Moore pitched excellently, Marshall had a win and a hold and Chapman notched four saves.
