BGB Fantasy League 2015: Week Eight

by Mark George
After a few weeks of impressive pitching, it was the turn of the batters to put on a show in the BaseballGB Fantasy League. One player belted six homers in a single week, but which manager would benefit?

An offensive sweep helped Jesmond become the biggest winner of the week, defeating the Chasers 10-2. Nolan Arenado and Chris Davis each belted four homers and Souza went deep three times while Pollock swiped two bases. Miller, Carrasco, Samardzija and Archer helped take ERA and WHIP. The Chasers salvaged wins and strikeouts thanks to Carlos Martinez, who picked up a win and 16Ks. Stanton hit three homers.

The Maltsters overtook my Isotopes in the standings after a comfortable 8-2 win. The offense took five out of six categories with Trumbo belting three homers and Peralta and Freeman each going deep twice. Jhonny knocked in eight while Eaton scored seven runs. On the mound, Scherzer and Bauer had double-digit strikeouts and combined with Santiago and Greinke to take ERA and WHIP. Alexei Ramirez stole three bases for my team while Jepsen had the lone hold in an otherwise forgettable week for my team, which also included more injuries.

The RBIs caused an upset by defeating Beck ‘Nams 7-3. Up against a very good Beck ‘Nams pitching staff, the RBIs responded by taking five out of six categories. Colon won twice, Karns helped take WHIP and Melancon and Tolleson had three saves each. McCann slugged three homers, while Votto and Polanco had two each. Beck ‘Nams edged RBIs and average thanks to Frazier while Shoemaker made the difference in ERA.

Keuchel was the pick of the bunch with a win, 14 strikeouts and great ERA (2.12) and WHIP (0.65) while Watson had three holds. Another Pirate, Josh Harrison, made the difference in runs. The Knights had a monster week from Donaldson, who scored 11, knocked in 11 and belted six homers, while Pujols hit a mere three. Blackmon swiped three bases and Street had three saves.

Finally, the Riverkings and Bits & Bytes ended in a 5-5 tie. The Riverkings bullpen contributed four wins, seven saves and a hold while Dozier scored seven runs. Bits & Bytes had the better of the offense as Belt hit three homers  and Pedroia went deep twice, but Strasburg’s injury means the already light pitching staff could well run the risk of missing the 20 inning minimum net week unless reinforcements are added.

The week nine matchups

Slugs (1st) v Isotopes (11th)
Jesmond (2nd) v Batteries Essential (7th)
Riverkings (3rd) v RBIs (8th)
Sox (4th) v Knights (5th)
Beck ‘Nams (6th) v Maltsters (10th)
Iron Men (9th) v Chasers (12th)
Bits & bytes (13th) v Norwich (14th)

The ‘Nams locker room door was duly locked, bats were thrown, and players were shown what losing sounds like.

Bunch of god-damn lollygaggers!
