The first round of the BaseballGB playoffs took place in week 23, with eight teams battling for a chance at the title but only four could advance. Which of the top four teams would survive?
We start with a big win for my Isotopes who defeated the Riverkings 11-1. The result sounds a lot more impressive as it actually was as both teams struggled to put up decent numbers. Frazier sparked an offensive sweep with five runs, two homers, seven RBIs, a steal and a .333 average. Happ helped take ERA and WHIP while Bauer struck out 12 and Britton had four saves and Reed had a pair of holds. Five different Riverkings picked up wins, with Daniel Norris the most impressive.

The Maltsters are also safely through to the semi-finals after defeating Norwich 10-2. In a matchup full of power, Segura had five homers to go with eight runs and eight RBIs and a .455 average while Blackmon (.462) and Murphy (.450) also helped take average and OPS. Goldschmidt stole three bases to round off an offensive sweep. Jon Gray was the star on the mound, twirling a complete game shutout which featured 16 strikeouts. Clippard and Gregerson had a hold each. Norwich took wins and saves thanks to Duffy and Ottavino while four players had multi-homer weeks, including three for Braun.
|The Cheddar Chasers||28||5||23||1||.296||.835||5||2||45||3||3.31||1.14||7|
The Chasers paid no attention to the pre-matchup rankings, knocking out the third-placed Knights 7-4. The pitchers won five categories as McHugh and Lester each picked up a win without allowing an earned run and posting miniscule WHIP numbers. Benoit had two holds. Melky Cabrera and Donaldson helped take average and OPS. For the Knights, Ortiz hit two homers and knocked in six while Arenado scored six runs. Anderson and Betts had a steal each.
Iron Men got the better of the Slugs 7-5 to book their semi-final place. Miranda had a win and eight strikeouts while Verlander and Roark helped take ERA and WHIP. Grilli and Will Smith had two holds each while Diaz and Gomez each had a save. Gordon ran wild with six steals. Hanley Ramirez had a monster offensive week for the Slugs, launching five homers, knocking in 12 and batting .462 while Inciarte scored seven runs. Alex Reyes had a pair of wins.

Isotopes (1st) v Iron Men (5th)
