A great final week in prospect

by Matt Smith

So, just one week of regular season action left. There are only a handful of early games for us to enjoy during the British evening, but the weekend should be full of excitement. Here’s my guide to the early games this week, all times listed in BST.

Monday – Just the one early game, taking place as I write this post. The Blue Jays started the final game at Yankee Stadium this season at 18.05.

Tuesday – No early games to enjoy today, I’m afraid. Perhaps the most interesting match-up takes place in LA, with the Rockies starting a three-game series against the Dodgers. These two teams faced each other last week in a four-game series, with Colorado sweeping their NL rivals. Ublado Jimenez looks to help his team to another victory, while Brad Penny tries to be the spoiler at 03.10.

Wednesday– Two early games from the American League. The AL West champion Angels face the Rangers at 19.05, while Jon Lester makes a start at Fenway against the A’s at 22.00.

Thursday – It’s two games from the National League today, and we may be able to witness some division-clinching celebrations (there’s a comment that could come back to haunt me!). The D-Backs’ ace Brandon Webb looks to send his team back to the post-season, as they complete their series against the Pirates (17.35). A few hours later, Steve Trachsel could be an unlikely hero for the Cubs in Miami as they take on the Marlins at 21.05.

Friday – No early games. Sky subscribers will get a weekend bonus though as NASN becomes free-to-view for the weekend from 17.00 today. It looks like a recorded game from Thursday will be broadcast at 19.30, followed by Baseball Tonight at 22.00.
