Recommended Reading: What’s wrong with King Felix?

by Matt Smith

There are some players in the game that every baseball fan, whatever their own allegiance, love to watch. One of the new additions to this “superstar” line-up is “King” Felix Hernandez. Seattle’s young starting pitcher was as sensational as predicted when he reached the Majors last season. The weight of expectation on his shoulders didn’t seem to bother him at all. He was touted as one of the most promising talents the game has ever seen and he didn’t disappoint.

So far however, his sophomore season has been a different story. Opposing teams are chalking up hits and runs against him, leading to great anguish among Mariners fans and concern from all baseball lovers. Is he suffering from an injury? Is he simply not as good as we all hoped he would be?

Thankfully David Cameron from top Mariners blog U.S.S. Mariner (rather than the Conservative party!) has offered an explanation. David is using MLB.TV to chart every pitch King Felix throws in an attempt to find out why hitters are having success against him. Check out his article at the Hardball Times to read a fascinating summary of his findings.
