All times are in BST.

Yesterday was a day of big innings. The A’s got to the Yankees with six runs in one inning, the Angels pounded the Twins for nine runs in the fourth frame of their game and the Phillies scored eleven runs over two innings to beat the Cardinals.

And then there was the Rays’ epic comeback over Toronto.  The Blue Jays teed off on David Price early on and gained a 9-1 lead after six innings, but the Rays made it 9-9 in the ninth to send it to extras and completed the job in twelve innings on a Jason Bartlett double that brought home Ben Zobrist.

That leaves plenty of scores to settle today.  Brett Cecil needs to put the brakes on the Rays with a strong start, while the Twins have to think of a way to stop the Angels juggernaut that has won eight games on the spin.

The Cubs are also in a decent vein of form having won nine of their last twelve games, albeit with four of those victories coming against the Nationals.  Chicago have closed to within half a game of the Cardinals at the top of the NL Central following St Louis’ tough loss yesterday to the Phillies. Back-to-back jacks by Rollins and Victorino (the former’s being a grand slam) did the damage and a few of the Cardinals hitters also had to contend with an idiot in the crowd shining a green laser in their faces as they were trying to bat.

The biggest green menace yesterday were the Oakland A’s who snapped the Yankees’ eight-game winning streak. Red Sox Nation will be hoping for another ‘upset’ today and a strong start by John Smoltz so that they end the day just half a game behind their fiercest rival.

All the above games can be followed via various resources on MLB.com (Gameday, Gameday Audio and MLB.tv).  ESPN America subscribers can watch the Cardinals-Phillies game live, followed by the White Sox-Tigers game at 01.00.
